D3.4 - Avoiding empty export loads on an existing Danube waterway service
This report summaries the NexTrust research activities looking into the freight segment of inland waterways - in particular, the Danube waterway.
The Danube transport axis has a total length of 2,845 kilometres, and is the second longest waterway in Europe, but very much underutilised.
The main goal of the Danube demonstrator was:
- Enabling demand sided horizontal collaboration between shippers in order to bundle freight flows and avoid empty running on the Danube waterway
- Defining the appropriate trusted collaboration business model, which can be applied in the context of the Danube Inland Waterway.
